BAUHAUS and whats left of it
We designed the visual identity for a three-day lecture series planned for the year following the Bauhaus centenary — after a full year of being surrounded by Bauhaus-related news, exhibitions and discussions. The conference was to be titled “Bauhaus and What’s Left of It.”
The identity consisted of three standalone pieces that could also be read as a series. Reflecting the three-day format, each poster was built around one of three Bauhaus colour combinations and its iconic basic forms: the circle, square and triangle.
All three shapes appear on each artwork, but are arranged differently each time. The missing parts of the main form are the imprints of the other two shapes, as if they had bitten into it and cut pieces away. The resulting forms resemble a partially eaten apple — a visual nod to the idea that Bauhaus has been chewed over so many times that there might be nothing left to say about it. And that was precisely the question behind the event: what is actually left, and what is still worth rethinking?
The event was ultimately cancelled due to the pandemic.
